It's been a while since I've shared an update, and I wanted to take a moment to explain why. < Back Life's Unexpected Turns: My Journey Through Injury and Recovery May 4, 2024 Dre Erwin It's been a while since I've shared an update, and I wanted to take a moment to explain why. Recently, I experienced a significant setback when I ruptured my bicep and required urgent surgery. It was a sudden and unexpected turn of events that left me reeling, both physically and emotionally. As someone deeply passionate about photography, facing the prospect of being sidelined from my creative pursuits was incredibly daunting. However, as I navigated through the challenges of surgery and recovery, I found solace and strength in unexpected places. The journey has been anything but easy, but it's also been incredibly enlightening. It's reminded me of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. Through it all, I've discovered a newfound appreciation for the simple moments of beauty that surround us every day. While my photography may have taken a temporary pause, my passion for capturing the essence of life remains unwavering. In fact, this experience has only fueled my determination to return to my craft with renewed vigor and creativity. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your continued support and encouragement throughout this journey. - What's Your GRIT Score?
Learn how to find your grit score now! < Back What's Your GRIT Score? Dec 7, 2023 Learn how to find your grit score now! What is grit? Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term goals. One way to think about grit is to consider what grit isn’t. Grit isn’t talent. Grit isn’t luck. Grit isn’t how intensely, for the moment, you want something. Instead, grit is about having what some researchers call an”ultimate concern”–a goal you care about so much that it organizes and gives meaning to almost everything you do. And grit is holding steadfast to that goal. Even when you fall down. Even when you screw up. Even when progress toward that goal is halting or slow. GRIT is the mnost important factor, not IQ, to help predict someone's success in life Talent and luck matter to success. But talent and luck are no guarantee of grit. And in the very long run, I think grit may matter as least as much, if not more. - Dazzling Northern Lights to Shine Brightest in Three Decades, Scientists Predict
A surge in sunspot observations, a significant determinant of this celestial spectacle, has been noted since 2022. < Back Dazzling Northern Lights to Shine Brightest in Three Decades, Scientists Predict Oct 19, 2023 A surge in sunspot observations, a significant determinant of this celestial spectacle, has been noted since 2022. Anticipated to be the most intense in three decades, the northern lights are set to dazzle the night skies with unprecedented brilliance. Scientists are forecasting that if this trend continues, the forthcoming 18 months will usher in the most robust northern lights display seen in years. In the coming 18 months, the northern lights will grace our planet with more frequent and widespread appearances than they have in the past two decades, and the expectation extends even into the next ten years, according to experts interviewed by NBC News. The Solar Cycle 25 Prediction Panel, an international consortium of scientists backed by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), initially projected a year of sunspot activity below the average, with a peak of 110 to 115 sunspots. However, revised models from multiple scientific sources indicate that sunspots may surge as high as 235. This surge in solar activity is anticipated to be on a steady incline until the autumn of 2024, which is believed to be the prime period for witnessing the northern lights, as confirmed by Mark Miesch, a research scientist affiliated with the University of Colorado Boulder and NOAA. The aurora borealis, renowned as the northern lights, manifests as a natural luminous phenomenon in regions of high latitude, particularly those near the Earth's polar regions. These mesmerizing displays are most frequently observed in countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Canada. Recent sightings of the northern lights extended as far south as Minnesota and Wisconsin. Mark Miesch noted that "when there's a significant disturbance in the magnetic field, there is a higher likelihood of witnessing auroras at lower latitudes." This development is poised to nearly double the chances of encountering the northern lights in the days to come. The northern lights phenomenon is generated by the interaction of charged solar particles with the Earth's magnetosphere, an area significantly influenced by the Earth's magnetic field. This collision results in the emission of energy in the form of luminous particles, forming the breathtaking visual spectacles avidly pursued by sky watchers. Learn more about it here. Join us in our upcoming blog as we delve deeper into how these mindful photography walks in nature can serve as catalysts for healing, gratitude, and rediscovering the beauty that life has to offer < Back Mindful Photography Walks: Healing Amidst Loss and Rediscovering Gratitude Jan 6, 2024 Dre Erwin Join us in our upcoming blog as we delve deeper into how these mindful photography walks in nature can serve as catalysts for healing, gratitude, and rediscovering the beauty that life has to offer Loss and sadness can cloud our perception, making it challenging to see the beauty that still surrounds us. However, there's a profound healing power in venturing out for a mindful photography walk, especially amidst nature's embrace. As we stroll through the forest, our smartphones transform into tools for focusing on the good in life. Engaging with our camera lenses prompts us to seek moments of beauty, allowing us to capture snippets of the world that resonate positively within us. In these moments of mindfulness, we pivot our attention toward the subtle wonders: the sunlight filtering through the canopy, the vibrant hues of flora, or the intricate details of the forest floor. It's a practice that transcends mere photography—it's a journey towards gratitude and appreciation. The law of attraction whispers that we attract what we focus on. When we use our phones' cameras to capture the goodness around us, we're actively requesting more of it. Through this intentional focus on gratitude, we invite more positivity into our lives. This June, I am heading back to Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan , to resume my dual mission as a Primary Care Nurse (RN-AAP) and a photographer. For me, returning to the North is about more than just a rotation; it’s about 'thinking outside the box' to find new ways to support community wellness. While I’ll be focused on the clinical needs of the community, I am also preparing for a significant milestone this fall: a series of speaking engagements at the Sandy Bay School . I’ll be sharing the ' Pinehouse Protocol ' and the concept of Visual Anchors —using the lens to help youth find focus and resilience amidst life's challenges. Stay tuned for new images and stories from the field as we continue to build a 'Diagnostic Bridge' between healthcare and the arts. - Northern Lights of Gratitude: How Saskatoon's Grade 2 Students Shine Bright with Art and Inspiration
Leanne Schappert's 'Gratitude is My Attitude' Approach Transforms Classrooms into Aurora Art Studios < Back Northern Lights of Gratitude: How Saskatoon's Grade 2 Students Shine Bright with Art and Inspiration Oct 12, 2023 Kim Jennings Leanne Schappert's 'Gratitude is My Attitude' Approach Transforms Classrooms into Aurora Art Studios In the heart of Saskatoon, a Grade 2 teacher named Leanne Schappert is lighting up her classroom with creativity and positivity, all thanks to a unique approach she fondly refers to as "Gratitude is my attitude." Inspired by the transformative work of Dre Erwin, Leanne has found an extraordinary way to combine the magic of art with the principles of the Law of Attraction. The result? Her students, too, are experiencing the radiant beauty of the Northern Lights, not just in the skies but on canvas as well. Dre Erwin, a renowned artist and advocate of therapeutic photography, has long been an inspiration to Leanne. Drawing from Dre's philosophy, she has woven the Law of Attraction into her teaching methods. "What an inspiration!" Leanne exclaims, as she watches her Grade 2 students shine with newfound creativity and gratitude. The project started with Dre Erwin's work as the foundation. His breathtaking captures of the Northern Lights served as a wellspring of inspiration for Leanne's young learners. Together, they studied his work, learned about the science and wonder behind the auroras, and even practiced meditative techniques. Leanne Schappert explains, "We wanted the children to understand that they could manifest their own beautiful visions, just like the Northern Lights." Under Leanne's guidance, her students have transformed their classroom into an aurora art studio. Armed with paintbrushes, vivid colors, and a newfound sense of gratitude, these Grade 2 artists have embarked on their creative journey. Their canvas becomes a reflection of their thoughts, dreams, and desires. The process of creating their own Northern Lights-inspired art has allowed the children to delve into the limitless possibilities of their imagination. Leanne explains, "They've learned that what you focus on can truly become your reality. With every brushstroke, they manifest their visions, and the results are nothing short of spectacular." The 'Gratitude is my attitude' approach fosters an atmosphere of positivity and self-expression, giving children a powerful tool to understand their emotions and unleash their artistic potential. And, as Leanne Schappert beautifully puts it, "It's incredible to see how these young minds have grasped the essence of gratitude as they paint their way to inspiration." Leanne Schappert's innovative teaching methods have not only awakened a love for art in her students but have also instilled in them the belief that they can create their own wonders, just like the Northern Lights in the night sky. Dre Erwin's work, combined with Leanne's dedication and the Law of Attraction, has truly set these Grade 2 students on a radiant path of creativity and gratitude. As they continue to paint their visions of the Northern Lights, they are not just embracing art but the boundless power of a positive attitude. In the end, it's evident that "Gratitude is my attitude" isn't just a slogan; it's a way of life, skillfully taught by an exceptional teacher in Saskatoon. The Northern Lights may be a natural phenomenon in the northern skies, but in Leanne Schappert's classroom, they've become an artistic and inspirational journey for all to witness.
